Seeing Red

"The Legend of the Poinsettia" involves the birth of Jesus and tells the story of a young girl who can get her hands only on a bunch of weeds for a gift that first Christmas Eve. But they transform into the brilliant crimson of the poinsettia, demonstrating the true spirit of giving. The Latin Ballet of Virginia's production portrays this story, as well as other traditions of Christmas in Latin America, through dance and song Sunday (Jan. 5) at the Carpenter Center, 5 p.m. Tickets are $18 - $25. 262-8100. — wayne melton
