Seeds of Summer:

The Carytown Watermelon Festival turns 26.

While it may not feature anything as big as Arkansas farmer Lloyd Bright's record holding watermelon, weighing an absurd 268.8 pounds, there'll be more than enough fleshy fruit to bite at Richmond's own Watermelon Festival. The all-day summer celebration makes its way back to Carytown on Sunday,  Aug. 9. In its 26th year, the day's events include more than 80 scheduled entertainers, with more than 100 merchants and vendors throughout the street's mile-long stretch. Whether you want to see how far you can spit a seed or just want to recreate the comedy act of Gallagher, the Watermelon Festival is free.
