“Scream Queens” at the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center

Friday, Oct. 26 through Nov. 4

Being an actress in a low-budget horror flick involves an exhausting amount of screeching, shuddering and desperate clinging — and the only reward is eventual disembowelment. “Scream Queens” is a comic musical-theater revue about the lives of these actresses. In a hotel ballroom in the middle of Ohio, thousands of fans descend on the International GlamaGore ScreamiCon, an annual convention for fans of direct-to-video horror films. The special guests are six of the sexiest and most popular horror actresses — collectively known as the Scream Queens. Through song and dance, they tell their adoring fans what it’s like to live the life of a scream queen. The cast includes Taylor Bernard, Karen Moody, Ashlyn Landrum, Ingrid Young, Emily Powers and Stephanie Hopkins — and not all of them may make it out alive. It’s the first full-scale production by the Friends of Dogwood Dell in association with the Richmond Department of Recreation, Parks and Facilities. “Scream Queens” opens at the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center on Friday, Oct. 26, and runs through Nov. 4. $10-$20. facebook.com/screamqueensrva.
