Scott Miller at Ashland Coffee & Tea

Singer and songwriter Scott Miller just can't get Virginia out of his head. Between naming his backing band the Commonwealth, prominently displaying the state crest on the cover of his solo debut “Thus Always to Tyrants,” and juxtaposing alt-country with traditional Appalachian Americana, the Augusta County native and graduate of the College of William and Mary doesn't have any intention of pulling up his roots. Capable of conveying the drama and history of his own Civil War ballads just as easily as some scruffy, drinking party rabble-rousers, this performer's introspection often hits closer to home than you'd imagine. Scott Miller is scheduled to perform at Ashland Coffee and Tea on Friday, Sept. 17, at 8 p.m. $12-$17.
