School Board Vote Came Down to Change

Lisa Dawson's loss in the recent School Board elections, as reported by Chris Dovi (“School Board Stunner,” News & Features, Nov. 12), was right on the mark. My decision to vote for Kim Gray hinged on one simple line in Lisa Dawson's campaign mailing. She touted her endorsement by the Richmond Education Association, which simply translates to status quo.
From my perspective it really didn't matter what Kim Gray's message was, and it's certainly irrelevant what the racial makeup of the new board will be. It's all about competence, changing the mind-set regarding the way we educate children and being prudent custodians of our resources.
Time will tell if Kim Gray is an improvement over Lisa Dawson. I wish her well for our children's sake.
