Sandaraa is a first-rate world music collaboration that dizzily transcends category. A strikingly original, category-defying collision of world music from South Asia, the Balkans and Eastern Europe — with a dash of classical and jazz — it’s virtually an entire folk festival in a compact package. Co-led by breakout Pakistani singer Zebunnisa “Zeb” Bangash and Brooklyn Klezmer clarinet virtuoso Michael Winograd, the band plays complex, danceable music with an appeal as universal as its sources. Co-produced by Jellowstone Records, the show takes place at Balliceaux on Friday, Sept. 12, with doors opening at 10 p.m. Admission is $10. balliceauxrva.com.
