Making the formal move from DJ and producer to proper solo artist with his 2002 debut, “Dead Ringer,” Ramble John Krohn, aka RJD2, has been a pivotal figure in the world of instrumental, sample-based hip-hop, joining the likes of Moby and DJ Shadow in terms of his ability for his genre-blending beats. Incorporating bits of soul, funk, electronica, psychedelia, jazz, pop and blues, RJD2's most well tracks include the likes of “Ghostwriter” and “A Beautiful Mine,” the latter forever associated with the animated freefall of Don Draper in the opening credits of “Mad Men.” Touring behind his 2010 album, “The Colossus,” the first record to be released on his own label, RJ's Electrical Connections, RJD2 is scheduled to perform at the Canal Club on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 9 p.m. $18-$22.
