Though it has a metropolitan setting, Richmond affords its inhabitants a level of escape to the great outdoors thanks to the waters and bordering woods of the James River. After a successful inauguration last year, the Sports Backers and Venture Richmond are back to celebrate life along the riverfront with the Dominion Riverrock Festival. Kicking off with a Filthy 5K Mud Run, the two-day event includes competitions in racing and freestyle biking, kayaking, air dog distance leaping and musical performances including the likes of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. There will also be a series of photo and video contests for those in attendance to capture the best moments of the festival, with top selections winning cash prizes. Kicks off Friday, May 14.
