Richmond Ballet adds a medium or two in Studio 3

Now you might think, as I do, that lovely people floating across a stage in body-hugging flesh wrap, gyrating suggestively and throwing one another around, would be enough media for one humble nervous system. At least five times as engaging as second-gen iPhones! But no, the Richmond Ballet has decided to add more media to its stimulating Studio Series. In the world premiere of Gina Patterson's “Silence,” one of two pieces presented as part of Studio 3, dancers move to Arvo PArt's “Tabula Rasa” and “Fur Elina,” whilst an audiovisual collage further threatens to short-circuit the old neurons. The second piece, a revival of “Djangology,” gets more playful, setting the dance to French gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt's music. That slight reduction in media might just save your life. Richmond Ballet's Studio 3 runs March 24-29 at 6:30 p.m. and other times at 407 E. Canal St. Tickets are $15-$28. Call 262-8003 or visit www.richmondballet.com. — Brandon Reynolds
