Every year on Halloween, dead musical acts come back from the grave for “Return of the Living Dead Bands,” a covers-heavy show featuring the best of Richmond’s punk and underground bands. In its third year, the show has been split into two nights to handle all the fun. On Saturday, members of Richmond’s Hex Machine, Gnawed, T-Division, Grundle Punch, In Circles, Point Blank, Brainworms, Precious Fluids, Ultra Dolphins, Kill the Car and Crunk Budder perform the songs of the Misfits, Black Flag, the Descendents, the Dead Kennedys, the Offspring, Elvis Costello and Joy Division. On Sunday there will be some serious head-banging on display, with Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica and Venom as performed by members of Gnawed, Humungus, Hex Machine, More Beer, Dominium, Ice Fortress, Point Blank and Malachite. “Return of the Living Dead Bands” goes live at Strange Matter on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. Free. 447-4763.
