Comedian Kathy Griffin has a reputation for being a tough pill to swallow. Whether starring in her Emmy-winning reality series, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List,” or taking on live audiences with her unapologetic jabs, she finds a way of getting laughs out of the wildly inappropriate. Any topic is fair game — plastic surgery, substance abuse, eating disorders, sexual orientation — as well as the constant fodder from red-carpet celebrities. Suffice it to say, you won't find Griffin an invited regular on most televised broadcasts. Of course this probably suits her just fine.

Uncensored stand-up is what she's best at doing. For some reason, cringe-worthy jokes are often the ones that make you laugh the hardest. Griffin appears Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 8 p.m. at the Landmark Theater. Tickets are $39-$50. 646-4213.
