It's almost commonplace in the world of classical music to hear about child prodigies, but what makes violinist Rachel Barton Pine even more special is that aside from performing the works of Mozart and Brahms, she also plays Metallica and Slayer. Having shared the stage with Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, even members from Guns N' Roses, you can now catch Pine back in classical mode in recital with pianist Matthew Hagle at Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 8 p.m. at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. $10-$32. 828-6776. — Alexander Chang
