Pretty Lights at the National

Colorado-based producer Derek Vincent Smith, otherwise known as Pretty Lights, clearly isn't the type of artist who lets a little thing like a recession keep him from selling his music for free. Whether the guy is economically challenged, or just has a secret stash of pirate doubloons tucked under his mattress, this versatile beat maker has had no qualms about upping the ante on Radiohead's name-your-price business scheme. He allows his fans to download his debut, “Taking Up Your Precious Time,” and his latest 26-track double album, “Filling Up the City Skies,” without any sort of payment whatsoever on his Web site, www.prettylightmusic.com. Accompanied by drummer Cory Eberhard, Pretty Lights is scheduled to bring his electro-soul samples to the National with opening act Long Jawns on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 9:30 p.m. $17-$20. 612-1900. — Mike Hilleary
