Photos With the Band

How many sullen bands have mildewed couches or industrial wastelands around to take those pictures we love so much? Apparently all of them, shopping at that thrift store right next to the abandoned power plant. Richmond photographer PJ Sykes looks to capture bands, like Ted Leo here, in new environments — where they play, for instance. And that's why he follows them around and snaps the pictures, he's assembled into his third show of band life, "Volume III," opening at Harrison Street Coffee Shop Sunday, April 1, 6-8 p.m. With music, naturally, by Timothy Bailey & The Humans and Mermaid Skeletons, 6-8 p.m. The show runs through April 29. 359-8060.
