Parachute at the National

While Charlottesville's distance from Richmond sort of negates any honorary claim to its creative output, it's still nice when any musician helps raise Virginia's musical profile. The latest act to garner some buzz-worthy attention is Parachute, formerly known as Sparky's Flaw. The band's first single, “She Is Love,” has been making the rounds with a healthy amount of radio play and featured in a Nivea television commercial (a bylaw in the licensing agreement says the group's members can never grow beards. … ever). With an official debut album set for release later this spring, this alt-rock quintet opens for O.A.R. at the National on Wednesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. $30-$35. 708 E. Broad St., 612-1900 or www.thenationalva.com.— Mike Hilleary
