Philadelphia-based Dr. Dog is one of those bands that's completely unapologetic about how musical influences guide its collective sound. Six records in, Dr. Dog is indebted to the forefathers of '60s pop, borrowing the sunniest melodic and harmony bits from artists as varied as the Beatles, Brian Wilson and the Band's “Music from Big Pink,” all filtered through skuzzy lo-fi recording equipment and reel-to-reel tape. On the road touring behind its latest work, “Shame Shame,” Dr. Dog is scheduled to perform two nights at the 9:30 Club in Washington, on Friday, Jan. 28, and Saturday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. $20.
