Oh, the Humanity

Carytown's New Year's Eve, take three.

With the Carytown New Year's Eve celebration in its third year, that humble little stretch of road will once again convert itself into an outdoor sardine can, featuring plenty of party hats, noisemakers, the occasional rub-up and some age-appropriate booze drinking. Leading up to the ball rise on top of the Byrd Theatre — Times Square has yet to figure out Richmond's gravity-defying technology — the night's countdown will be preceded by musical performances from No BS Brass Band, Prabir and the Substitutes, the Secret Cool, as well as the Virginia Lottery millionaire raffle at 11:30 p.m. Carytown promises a better layout, larger VIP area, more security and the inclusion of big-screen monitors, so bring a $2 donation and hit the reset button for a fresh start. For information visit www.carytown.org or call 422-CARY. — Mike Hilleary
