Think aluminum is the heaviest metal you can recycle? Think again. This month Quirk Gallery's vault is filled with jewelry "mined" from the community.

The Radical Jewelry Makeover project, headed by Christina Miller (above) and Susan Kingsley, gave over earrings, bracelets and even wedding rings that people were ready to give up to Virginia Commonwealth University metal students. They mixed and melted the haul into new shapes and looks. See for yourself through March 31. More information at www.quirkgallery.com
