A band that’s almost synonymous with Richmond, No BS Brass Band has been taking the rest of the world by storm recently. On top of releasing its new album, “RVA All Day,” last month, earning glowing write-ups in Time and Spin, the ensemble had the opportunity to play three songs for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk concert series, showing off what Richmond gets to hear constantly. Not content with just one album this year, No BS is set to release another collection of songs. It’s a tribute to legendary jazz bassist and composer, Charles Mingus, titled “Fight Song: Tribute to Charles Mingus,” in which the band interprets eight Mingus classics including the popular “Haitian Fight Song.” No BS Brass Band performs at Balliceaux on Friday, July 5, at 10 p.m. $5. balliceauxrva.com.
