It’s difficult to place Miss Tess’ music into one specific genre. Critics have raved about Miss Tess and her band, the Bon Ton Parade, for years. She won a Boston Music Award for outstanding folk artist of the year in 2008, and landed nominations for best jazz act in 2009 and 2011. The Boston Phoenix also named the group best roots act in 2010. The band continually develops its style, paying respect to the timeless Americana sound it comes from with skilled musicianship and heartfelt songwriting. Miss Tess recently released “Live Across the Mason Dixon Line,” a double album featuring two live shows -- one from the Regatta Bar in Cambridge, Mass., and one from Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Ga. Miss Tess and the Bon Ton Parade perform at Balliceaux on Friday, May 25, at 10:30 p.m. $7. 355-3008.
