It's not likely everyone will embrace the lights or think that the Fan District is the right place to roll them out. Pantele notes that supplemental lighting already exists, for instance, in some areas of Jackson Ward and Shockoe Bottom, and around Virginia Commonwealth University.
The Fan District Association has lobbied hard for the project, Pantele says, and the city has kicked in $1.5 million. Likewise, he adds, Dominion Virginia Power has contributed nearly $1 million, along with providing installation and design work. All told, the project calls for the installation of 430 of the new lampposts throughout the Fan with no completion date set. S
