George Frideric Handel's opera "Agrippina" brought to the Landmark Theater by the Virginia Opera, makes us glad we don't have a power-mad family running our country. Ahem. Handel's satire — an absolute scream compared with "Messiah" — examines the parenting skills of Empress Agrippina (played by soprano Sujung Kim) wife of he, Claudius, mother of fiddler Nero and sister to Caligula (who invented the wet-toga contest). She's trying to scheme her boy into office, and the only thing that sings in her way is local vixen Poppea. Dare we suggest that Handel was the first to consider a catfight? See the work of a true visionary Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20-$85. Call 262-8003 or visit www.ticketmaster.com. S
