During the past number of years there's been a noticeable influx in the number of musical duos that are equal parts XX and XY. There's the exploding noise experimentalism of Sleigh Bells, the retro AM pop of She & Him and the lush dreamscapes of Beach House. Each pair demonstrates how much creative spark can come from the opposite sexes. Easily culled among such standout guys and girls are the Brooklyn-based pop and rock couple Matt & Kim. Featuring Matt Johnson's bouncing keyboards and buzzy synthesizers with Kim Schifno's tight, punkish percussion, Matt & Kim maintain a gleeful pep to songs that all want to be the life of a good party. Supporting the release of their latest album, “Sidewalks,” Matt & Kim are scheduled to perform at the Canal Club on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. $15-$18.
