Managing Editor Reassigned at T-D

Media General is in another state of churn.

Brick, the company's ersatz alternative newspaper in Richmond, will shut down next week after a four-year run. Initially aimed at the “urban millennial” audience and “nonconsumers” of Media General's other products, Brick foundered after the departure of independent-minded editor Pete Humes. The weekly attempted to broaden its audience, focusing on entertainment news, and was overseen by a Media General team that also produced advertorials.

More changes seem to be under way at The Richmond Times-Dispatch. Managing Editor Peggy Bellows is no longer running the T-D's day-to-day operations after being tapped to oversee a new master copy desk in Richmond that will edit stories from out-of-state newspapers. Executive Editor Glenn Proctor assumes the paper's day-to-day operations along with a team of senior editors, writes Frazier Millner, Media General's vice president for audience and content development, in an e-mail.

Proctor, one of the country's few black editors, recently became news director of a reorganized Richmond Media Group. In that capacity he no longer reports directly to publisher Thomas A. Silvestri, but rather to Millner.
