Lucia's Love

In the long literary tradition of women who go insane and kill either themselves or their lovers, "Lucia Di Lammermoor" is an opera of familial and political intrigue, a devastatingly inappropriate arranged marriage, a raging bull and a fortune squandered. One of the 70 operas composed by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, "Lucia," based on "The Bride of Lammermoor" by Sir Walter Scott, is set in 18th-century Scotland. The Virginia Opera brings this timeless story of love gone oh-so-wrong to the Landmark Theater April 11 at 8 p.m. and April 13 at 2:30 p.m. $20-$85. 646-4213 or visit www.vaopera.org.
