Philadelphia-based instrumental band Lotus was formed by brothers Luke and Jesse Miller while attending Goshen College in 1999 with fellow members Steve Clemens, Chuck Morris and Mike Rempel. The group has developed its collective palette tremendously through the years, moving beyond the tropes of simple jam-band territory into a progressive ensemble whose mix of rock, funk, electronica samples, synths, jazz inflections and general dance hall vibe is equal parts hipster and hippie. Performances involve both kaleidoscopic light displays and periods of meandering improv. Releasing its most recent studio work, two joint EPs “Oil On Glass/Feather on Wood,” in 2009, Lotus performs at the National on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. $20-$22.
