LETTER: Richmond Police Deserve Thanks

The comments in Richmond Chief of Police Alfred Durham’s Back Page only affirm what most of us know. Richmond’s cops are very good. And my several experiences with them prove them to be patient and knowledgeable.

Cops don’t carry guns to balance out their body weight. Our species includes some really bad players. When a cop shoots somebody, I’m going to side with the cop, until proven otherwise. Recall Richmond had the second highest murder rate in the nation some years ago. Most of the bad players have been killed off, but some remain. And more are born every day.

So thank and bless our cops. If they went away, we would all have to pack heat and shoot our way to work, and play. Or hide in the basement.
