Letter: Liu Xia and a Curator’s Dream

As co-curator of “The Silent Strength of Liu Xia,” the exhibition on view at the University of Richmond Museums, I wanted to thank you on behalf of Liu Xia and my co-curator, Guy Sorman, for making this your cover story and devoting so much space to it. My compliments also to Arts and Culture Editor Brent Baldwin, who did a first-rate job of distilling a lot of complex information and making it accessible and engaging. While in Richmond, I spent an afternoon with the graduate class in museum studies taught by the museums’ director, Richard Waller. I told them that this was the article a curator dreams about to introduce an exhibition to its local audience. We had an overflow crowd for the opening events — due in part, we’re sure, to the publication of this fine article.
