Since its establishment in the late '90s by South American native Ana Ines King, the Latin Ballet of Virginia has provided some serious flare to the area's dance community. But focusing on diversity hasn't meant abandoning any sense of consistency and tradition. Just as the Richmond Ballet indulges in its annual, critically lauded presentation of Tchaikovsky's “The Nutcracker,” the Latin Ballet of Virginia has supported its own holiday stage work, “The Legend of the Poinsettia.” Based on the Mexican legend about a young girl and a handful of weeds that magically transform into a beautiful crimson bouquet, the recital blends the cultural festivities of Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Spain and Puerto Rico. Celebrating its 10th anniversary of scheduled shows, the Latin Ballet presents the “Legend of the Poinsettia” at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen on Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m., with performances through Jan. 9. $15-$20. 379-2555.
