Kristy's Cause

Singer/songwriter Kristy Krüger has a unique mission. She's set out to visit each of the 50 states her brother, Lt. Col. Eric Krüger, gave his life protecting during his short stay in Iraq. Virginia is Kristy's 20th stop on her nationwide tour, and she promises to show Richmond an impassioned show Friday, Feb. 22, at 9 p.m. at The Camel. Krüger has been described as a "female Tom Waits," which rings true, though it's hard not to draw comparisons to Neko Case, as well as Gillian Welch -- even Hank Williams Sr. at times. The Texan has released four albums; her most recent effort is ironically titled "Songs From a Dead Man's Couch," which hit shelves just months before her brother's unfortunate death. Portions of the proceeds from this tour are donated to the Fisher House, a nonprofit established to support wounded veterans. $5. 353-4901 or visit www.thecamel.org.
