While she may be superficially linked with Boston's modern folk scene, singer and songwriter Kris Delmhorst is hardly a stereotype of the coffee-shop strummer. A talented multi-instrumentalist capable of playing guitar, piano, cello, fiddle, organ and who knows what else, Delmhorst is an experimenter in minimalist atmosphere and texture, and is intelligently atypical in her melodies. Her 2006 album “Strange Conversation” was an experiment in setting her own original compositions against some of her favorite poets, including E.E. Cummings and Lord Bryon. Supporting her most recent album, “Shotgun Singer,” Delmhorst performs at Ashland Coffee and Tea on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. $12-$17.
