Funk and jazz saxophonist Karl Denson has worked with numerous big names in the music industry, including Lenny Kravitz (the solo on “Let Love Rule” was his), Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Blackalicious and Stanton Moore, to name a few. He continues to lead both Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe as well as the Karl Denson Trio. The Tiny Universe lineup, which includes Richmond guitar sensation DJ Williams, has headlined and performed at numerous festivals, including Bonnaroo, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and the All Good Music Festival. Denson’s latest release, 2009’s “Brother’s Keeper,” continues his trend of fusing sounds as wide-ranging as rock, funk and afrobeat.
