Richmond six-string slinger DJ Williams improves everything he’s part of. His clear, concise and uncluttered playing forsakes the look-at-me, fret-board gymnastics favored by the post-Eddie Van Halen crowd, in service of what’s best for the song. We here in Richmond take him for granted. But his lack of indulgences should be appreciated, and his unmistakable, “Cool Hand Luke” style should be celebrated as the achievement it is in a world increasingly populated by players who are all icing and no cake.
