Judges

Dennis Danvers is a member of the James River Writers board of directors and the author of six sci-fi and fantasy novels, the most recent of which is "The Bright Spot." Danvers holds a doctorate in literature from the University of Texas at Arlington and has taught literature and writing at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Valley Haggard is the book editor for Style Weekly.

Phaedra Hise has been co-chair of the James River Writers since its inception in 2002. She is a journalist and author of four nonfiction books, the most recent of which is "Pilot Error: Anatomy of an Airplane Crash." Hise also flies a plane, which she keeps at Richmond International Airport.

Linda McDonald has taught at Virginia Union University for the past 20 years and has been chair of the university's English department for the past five years. She teaches classes in the novel, world drama, African-American literature, world literature and composition.

Jason Roop is the editor of Style Weekly.



Screening Judges

Clay Chapman is a member of the James River Writers board of directors and is the author of "Rest Area," "Miss Corpus" and "Bends Memories." He is also a playwright and performer in the Pumpkin Pie Show.

Hannah Huber, an account executive for Style Weekly, is pursuing her master of fine arts degree in fiction writing at Queens University in Charlotte.

Kelly Justice is manager of the Fountain Bookstore.

Mary Mullins writes book reviews for Style Weekly and was last year's second-place winner in Style's Second Annual Fiction Contest.

Carrie Nieman is the arts editor of Style Weekly.

Brandon Reynolds is a fiction writer who won third place in Style Weekly's First Annual Fiction Contest. He is calendar editor of Style.

Jason Roop is the editor of Style Weekly.

Melissa Scott Sinclair is an associate editor of Style Weekly.

Ward Tefft is the owner of Chop Suey Books.
