Re: “2015 Virginia Literature: A Year in Review

In memory and honor of Shann Palmer, who surely would have commented that no poetry was mentioned in the article above, here’s some of what happened in Virginia poetry. Feel free to add more to the list!

—Ellen Bryant Voigt won a MacArthur Genius Grant for poetry.
—Claudia Emerson published “The Opposite House” and “Impossible Bottle” on LSU Press.
—Gregory Donovan published his book “Torn From The Sun” on Red Hen Press.
—Brian Henry published his book “Static & Snow” on Black Ocean.
—David Wojahn published a book of essays “From the Valley of Making: Essays on the Craft of Poetry” on University of Michigan Press.
—Michele Poulos finished her amazing documentary film on the poet Larry Levis called “A Late Style of Fire.”
—Steve Scafidi won the Library of Virginia’s Poetry Prize for his book “The Cabinet Maker’s Window.”
—Ron Smith served as Virginia’s Poet Laureate.
—Joanna Lee hosted more workshops, readings and poetry events than all of the local universities combined!
—Joshua Poteat (the dude posting this) published “The Regret Histories” on HarperPerennial and won the Carole Weinstein Prize in Poetry.
