With 35 albums and six Grammy nominations, internationally acclaimed folk singer and hammered-dulcimer master John McCutcheon has been entertaining audiences since the 1970s. McCutcheon’s most recent release, the all-Woody Guthrie recording, “This Land: Woody Guthrie’s America,” honors the 100-year anniversary of the icon’s birth and includes McCutcheon’s renditions of classic Guthrie songs. A longtime activist for peace and social justice, McCutcheon will donate proceeds from the concert to benefit the Richmond Peace Education Center, an organization that promotes nonviolence in the Richmond community and globally. John McCutcheon performs at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Singleton Center on Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. $10-$25. rpec.org.
