Jazzbo’s Gets A New Life

For almost four years Jazzbo's Rollin' Gumbo was a beloved Bellevue landmark. The food trailer, permanently parked at Once Upon a Vine on MacArthur Avenue, had a loyal following for its hearty Cajun food and its gregarious chef, Jamie Dickerson.
Dickerson died in November after a brief battle with cancer. Ever since, the white trailer that housed Jazzbo's has been shut and silent. Now a young couple is buying the trailer to bring gourmet grilled cheese to the North Side.
Lindsey Koertge, 29, and Graham Harrison, 26, long had wanted to open a little food cart near Virginia Commonwealth University. Financing was difficult to find, Harrison says, and "we kind of gave up on that dream."
Then Harrison, who grew up in the North Side, heard the Jazzbo's trailer was for sale by Molly Buford, Dickerson's business and life partner. It's scheduled to reopen as the Grey Hill Café by the end of the month, with hours Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. The trailer will remain at the same location on MacArthur Avenue.
The Grey Hill Café's specialty will be made-to-order, perfectly crusty, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwiches with various cheeses and toppings. Also on the menu are specialty sandwiches, homemade soups and sides.
But can traditionalists still order American on white? "Oh, most definitely," Koertge says.
