So many local bands with new CDs this fall and so little space!
One of the more popular and harder-working bands of the past few years, emo-pop five-piece Supercomp, has changed its name to Aircraft. The members celebrated the release of their new, self-titled disc in August at Lucky Lounge.
With an Autumn schedule that should solidify their place among the ranks of Virginia college faves that have included Pat McGee, Carbon Leaf, Indecision and Fighting Gravity (known then as Boy O Boy), jazz-grass jammers Muelle recently released its debut disc, "Falling Anyway" (available at Plan 9). The band's playing live at Legend Brewing Company Sept. 23 with special guests the Orderlies & Emily Easterly. www.muelleband.com. (Incidentally, Carbon Leaf has another chance to break big. It landed the opening spot for pop sensation and native Richmonder Jason Mraz for the October leg of his tour.)
Out supporting their August release, "Riding the High Horse," power rockers The Deviltones will return to Richmond with the White Trash Luau Sept. 22-24 in Mountain Lake, with the Strap-Ons and Pistol Whippers. www.deviltones.com.
As promised, bluegrass award-winners Jackass Flats have a new disc in their pocket and they want to share it. Come to one of their CD release parties — Sept. 13 at Bogart's and Sept. 15 at Cary St Café — to hear them and pick up "Purgatory Mountain." Be sure to ask them about their recent performance at the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. www.jackass-flats.com.
Rap-metal group St. Diablo will release "Republica" to coincide with its show at Alley Katz alongside national recording artists Chimaira Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. www.stdiablo.com.
D.C.-based garage-rock outfit Adam West, winner of six Wammies, added Richmond drummer Jim Sciubba (previously of Channel 43) in 2004. The group plays Alley Katz Oct. 7, kicks off a European tour Oct. 26 and releases "Power to the People" Nov. 7. fandangorecs.com/adamwest.
Funky post-punk pop band Fabled Automatic formed as M-Unit in December 2003 from the remnants of Loosely Bound (guitarist/vocalist Jared Jones and guitarist/vocalist Lans Linden) and Sansabelt (bassist Dane Magoon). With the addition of drummer Dave Hess, the band is now a four-piece that recently recorded for the first time at Jesus on the Freezer Studios, owned and operated by Steve Barber. Fabled Automatic plays free shows at Easy Street on Sept. 24 and Oct. 22 and Café Diem Sept. 14. All shows start at 10 p.m. www.fabledautomatic.com.
