Three decades ago, bald eagles were all but extinct on the James River. Now America's symbolic bird makes a stunning comeback in Richmond's backyard.

Photographer's note: When the eagle swooped in to grab the fish, I was able to get off three frames, which was my only chance in three outings on the river. I was very relieved I didn't blow it.
