How Is It Pronounced Again? Zyne? Zeen?

In terms of placement on the totem pole of publishing legitimacy, 'zines are typically regarded just above the scribbled rantings found on cocktail napkins and indie-music blogs. But for those smart enough to give the industry's self-circulated pamphlet its creative due — apparently “Common Sense” by some guy named Thomas Paine was pretty popular back in the day — the annual Richmond Zine Fest again seeks to create a network among writers, distributors and readers to help raise awareness and encourage the growth of this independent press. With numerous vendors, workshops and reading forums to be held at the Gay Community Center of Richmond Saturday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., help give the do-it-yourself minority some needed appreciation. 1407 Sherwood Ave. Visit www.richmondzinefest.org. .
