Hopewell is the Second City

Chicago's Second City has proven itself to be a breeding ground for comedic talent. The legendary comedy troupe's alumni list reads like a who's who of American comedy -- from John Belushi, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Gilda Radner to Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert. The next generation of Second City comedians uses its comedic prowess to help benefit Hopewell's historic Beacon Theatre, which needs $7.3 million to restore the circa 1928 theater's auditorium and build an annex. The Second City troupe performs "One Nation, Under Blog" at Hopewell High School, Sunday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15. Call 458-6551 or www.beacontheatre.org.
