When the old Shields Market closed across the street, Joe's Inn owner Michael Kafantaris seized the opportunity. He renovated the Fan neighborhood market into an upscale grocery stocked with everday staples like toilet paper as well as organic foods and fresh produce. The market also offers Rostov's coffee, fresh-brewed and whole-bean, prepared food from Joe's Inn, and gourmet meals to go, with offerings that change daily, from chef Stella Dikos.
Shields manager Mari Miles is excited about the new venture. "Our customers are so happy to have us here," says Miles. "They love that [the] market is reopened and that we are offering such diversity. We see ourselves really growing in the future as our customers help define the shop." Shields is open every day from 8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.; prepared foods from Dikos are offered Monday-Friday after 5 p.m.
