Barbecue, beer and bands come to historic Church Hill for Hogtober, a day celebrating the pig. Local pit masters from Alamo BBQ, Extra Billy’s and the Halligan Bar & Grill will fire up their smokers and serve Southern-style barbecue. And local bands will serve up Americana, bluegrass and rock ’n’ roll all day, including River City Band, Long Arms, Chrome Daddy Disco and Andy Vaughan and the Driveline. Also on tap are balloon art, face painting and crafts for the kids, as well as the crowning of the new Miss Hot Sauce. Proceeds go to the Church Hill Association to help fund historic preservation and educational programs. Church Hill and Style Weekly’s Hogtober takes place on Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon-7 p.m. at Libby Hill Park. Free. hogtober.com.
