Higher Ground Women’s Leadership Conference at the Richmond Marriott

Friday, Jan. 30

When my wife was pregnant with our child, I wanted a boy. There are many stupid reasons for this, but the main one was that females don’t have the same advantages as men. They get paid less, face discrimination, and in some parts of the world, are treated as property. That’s where the ninth annual Higher Ground Women’s Leadership Conference comes in. On Friday, Jan. 30, at the Richmond Marriott, the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute presents a day of plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops and speakers — including the keynote, award-winning journalist Suzanne Malveaux. The goal is to help women empower themselves against social, political and economic injustices. And even if I wasn’t a proud father of a daughter, it’s our responsibility to make this world a better place for women. The daylong education and networking seminar begins at 7:30 a.m. Call 827-1169 or email gehli@vcu.edu.
