Made up of husband and wife Dan Boeckner (frontman of Wolf Parade) and Alexei Perry, the Montreal duo Handsome Furs emerged in 2007 with its debut, "Plague Park," brandishing a number of attention-grabbing synth-pop tunes. Continuing the fusion of beat machines and dance hooks, the pair has leveled-up its programmed arrangements with the recent sophomore effort, "Face Control." Inspired by the dark side of Eastern European club culture — the title refers to a common practice among upscale Russian nightclubs in which people are admitted based on physical attractiveness — there's a cold heat in its skuzzy melodrama. Handsome Furs are scheduled to perform at Gallery5 on Friday, April 15, at 8 p.m. $10. 644-0005.
