Hackensaw Boys at the National

Deriving their name from the rapid-fire strumming and slashing that occurs while playing their primitive mountain-man bluegrass, the Charlottesville-based Hackensaw Boys manage to give rural instruments like the mandolin, upright bass and fiddle a genuine punk-rock aesthetic. Forgoing the production gloss of some fancy studio sound, this Appalachian garage band prefers to keep things rough, loose and simple. Catch the Boys with openers A Good Natured Riot at the National on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. $13-$15. 612-1900.
