What do you call a show with established Richmond favorites Black Girls, Goldrush, the Long Arms and the Northerners playing with up-and-comers Hypercolor, The Awesome Few and My Old Ways all on one bill? Simple: the best local music showcase of the year. The annual gathering of indigenous melody-makers is impressive not only in the quality of the talent assembled, but also because no two bands sound alike. That’s long been our city’s greatest underground musical attribute. Bands would rather sound like themselves than anybody else. Shows like this keep me coming back for more. Ghost of Pop 9 is Saturday, Dec. 14, at Gallery5. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 with all proceeds benefiting Home Again Richmond. gallery5arts.org.
