With the overturning of the Defense of Marriage Act and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, it’s getting downright hip to be gay these days. While I applaud society’s growing acceptance that some of us are attracted to members of their own gender, I find it mildly amusing that a person’s sexual orientation is even a matter of debate. The only sexuality I’m interested in is my own, and what two other consenting adults do when I’m not around is no one’s business. Obvious truths aside, GayRVA.com is throwing a great big, “Say it loud, I’m gay and I’m proud” bash at Bar Code on Friday, Sept. 27, to celebrate the launch of G Magazine. With appearances by Shangela and a slate of surprises, it’s a glorious opportunity for breeders and nonbreeders to get together before Saturday’s Virginia Pride at Kanawha Plaza for one thing that brings all people together: the need to party.
