Galaxy Dynamite at the Camel

Wednesday, July 2. 7 p.m.

Space: the final frontier — that’s the wordless message of Galaxy Dynamite. The instrumental sci-fi disco of the Norfolk trio intones a rhythmic sense of infinite possibility similar to that of Sacramento’s Chk, Chk, Chk (!!!) with more honey than vinegar. But the group’s video-game crossbred of post-punk funk with the freewheeling, atmospheric grooves of Parliament isn’t a cold, analytical assessment by three Spocks. It may rock ’n’ roll where every band has gone before, but Galaxy Dynamite brings the inquisitive charm, wit and desire that made Captain Kirk irresistible to various breeds of alien space women. Its pleasure-seeking sound comes to the Camel on Wednesday, July 2. North Carolina’s Electric Soul Pandemic opens. Doors open at 7 p.m. Free.
