Students learn about papers and brushes, practice watercolor painting skills and complete exercises demonstrating core techniques. Students complete one or more paintings of simple botanical subjects such as leaves, nuts or simple flowers of their choice, practicing the painting skills taught in the class. Accuracy of representation is emphasized as well as artistic expressiveness. Hazel Buys is the instructor. On completion of this course, candidates for the certificate of competency in botanical illustration will submit their midprogram portfolios for review.
